JERRY THE LODGER
Jerry was our lodger, he rented a room at our house after my father left.
Jerry worked for the Dutch airline KLM. My mother told me that he spent a lot of his time fiddling with his radio in his room, she could hear all the static noises.
She also told me years later, when I was old enough to hear about such things, that he kept women's underwear in his room.
Jerry used to feel sorry for my mother having to wash up piles of dishes. He didn't actually lend a hand but he did sit in the kitchen and entertain her by playing his mouth organ while she got on with women's work.
Then we got another lodger, Inspector Tol of the Dutch police. During the night Jerry left very quickly.
Apparently he had been spying for the Russians.
