Iris Steensma - printmaker: Midshipman Comber

Size of each image 27.5 cm x 14 cm Linocut - multi-block

Just before coming to New Zealand a Canberra friend, Margaret Perley, gave me a small book called "Tour of Duty, Midshipman Comber's Journal Aboard HMS 'Herald' On the East Indies Station, Australia, New Zealand & China, 1838-42". Midshipman Comber was Margaret's great grandfather. Aboard the Herald was Captain Hobson who came to New Zealand to oversee the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, the treaty between the Maoris and the British.

Margaret died in 2006. These pictures are for her.
